We fish with the fly. However, the fish don't just eat insects - they eat any food that is available. The bread fly therefore works wherever fish are fed by humans. Bread flies are primarily known for fishing for carp, eel etc., but trout also eat bread where available. - But trout also eat bread where it is available.
Here is an illustrative example:
We were fly fishing on the trophy stretch of the Idrijca in Slovenia. We caught the usual rainbow trout - the Marmorata stood impassively on the bottom - neither dry flies nor nymphs interested them.
Then, schoolboys came over the bridge and threw leftover bread into the river.
Suddenly the fish started to move - a real feeding frenzy!!!...
No wonder my colleague wanted to take bread flies with him next year!
