First flies were made by the tiers of the last century with hackles from cock neck capes of domestic breeds. There were no "genetic" cocks. The myth of "stiff hackle" was put in the world especially by american fly tiers, making flies for fast waters. In these flies, like Wulff's, the Bivisible and others it may make sense to have a fly sitting high on the water. In contrast to this, dry flies for pre-alpine rivers or chalk streams, imitating mayflies, are far better with a softer hackle, which does not penetrate the surface. Swissflies is using wherever possible hackles of genuine domestic breeds. Nevertheless, in certain flies we use also american premium cock necks. We offer only a few hackles- but what you really need.
