Tomislav Alar

Tomislav Alar, is a 39 years old fly tier from Gospić, Croatia. Fishing the famous river Gacka is part of his life and fly tying became a true passion and a way to express his creativity. He is very enthusiastic when it comes to learning about aquatic insects and their behavior from a fly fishing standing point.

He ties nymphs, emergers and dry flies, as well as wet flies or spider patterns to imitate the nature.

His patterns have proved to be very effective, especially for tricking selective fish in chalk streams.

Baetis rhodani Nymph

The Baetis Rhodani nymph from Tomislav Alar is to my opinion by far the best imitation of the most abundant mayflies nymphs of europe. With his precise tying and the correct weighting with one size adapted tungsten bead the nymph sinks right to fish to be taken.

Serratella ignita nymph

Serratella ignita nymph from Tomislav Alar is imitating a very common mayflies species, especially in chalk streams across Europe. The nymphs from Tomislav Alar match both the color and silhouette of naturals. With two different weights (2 mm and 2.5 mm tungsten beads) the nymph sinks to the correct depth right into the feeding lane of fish.

Available in size 14 and size 16 with adapted tungsten beads to meet the required depth and size of naturals.

Sedge pupa

The Sedge pupa that Tomislav Alar ties is tied specifically to meet the requirements of euronymphing technique. This imitation has a lot of built in action and when presented and lead correctly it will perfectly imitate an emerging sedge pupa. However the true power of this imitation lies in the fact that by its color and silhouette it resembles a lot of aquatic insects and both trout and grayling love it.

Available in size 14 with 3 mm tungsten bead.
